Hitting the Mark

A Capital Campaign for Virginia Academy

Virginia Academy The Hitting the Mark capital campaign was launched to secure funds for a much-needed 78,000 square foot extension to include a 38,000 square foot academic expansion and a 20,000 square foot, climate-controlled gymnasium. This will also include the relocation and enhancement of our preschool playground.

"Children are a gift from the Lord. Children are like arrows in the hands of a warrior. Happy is the man who has a bag full of arrows. They will not be defeated when they fight their enemies."Psalm 127:3-5

  • Academic Expansion

The 38,000 square foot academic expansion will be built around and on top of our new gymnasium, completing our upper school build out. Increasing our capacity by 250 students, this new addition will include:

    • 1.) A separate upper school entrance and lobby that overlooks the gymnasium
    • 2.) Collaborative meeting spaces and other large common areas for student life gatherings
    1. 3.) 11 new upper school classrooms including two state of the art science labs, a dedicated art room, library/digital resource rooms, and expanded administrative offices
  • Preschool Playground

This expansion will displace our current preschool playground, so the campaign will include a new preschool play area with updated climbing play structures with bridges and beams, bike and trike paths, and rubber compound flooring for safety. The new playground will include features that focus on appropriate developmental milestones like climbing, stability and imaginative play.

  • Gymnasium

Right behind the academic expansion is a need to replace the beloved “Bubble.”  It has served its purpose, but due to its lack of insulation, we must rent spaces for indoor sports and conduct PE classes in sub-par conditions.  Within the expansion, a new 20,000-square-foot, climate-controlled gymnasium will be added that will have multiple hardwood courts for volleyball and basketball practices and games, stadium seating, a full kitchen for concessions, and ample space for daily PE classes for all divisions.
