After two Division III titles, the lady Patriots continue the winning streak in Division II
ASHBURN, VA – The Virginia Academy girls varsity basketball team beat the Miller School 46-35 to win the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division II championship. The team earned the Division III title in both 2022 and 2021 and continued the winning streak this year after moving up to Division II.
The victory is a culmination of a successful season for Virginia Academy basketball overall. The junior varsity boys team won their first-ever conference championship, the middle school boys team won their league tournament, and the middle school girls basketball team earned second place in their tournament.
“It has been a blessing to carry out a vision,” shared Girls Varsity Coach Walter Hamilton, “and for the results to show that the vision we had for this program was able to be realized and executed.” Hamilton began the girls varsity program in 2020 and has continued with the team throughout their three championship wins.
As the program has grown and continues to grow, Hamilton has kept Virginia Academy’s consistent standard for excellence. “We have a certain culture that we’ve been able to facilitate,” he continued, “no matter who comes to the academy, this is what we expect: high standards of character, skill, and an attitude of winning.”
