Virginia Academy Honors 5 Student Athletes in Spring Signing Day

Virginia Academy Patriots to continue their sports career at a collegiate level.

ASHBURN, Va – Virginia Academy celebrated five seniors who are continuing their athletic careers at the collegiate level. During the Virginia Academy weekly chapel, Tristan Alvarez, Elizabeth Crespo, Robert Glynn, Caiyiah Smith, and Joimarie Williams signed to play in college.

Tristan Alvarez will be playing basketball at Susquehanna University. Alvarez has been an efficient scorer as a combo guard on our Varsity Boys Basketball team.

Elizabeth Crespo will be playing volleyball at University of Charleston. Crespo has worked as a teacher assistant with Virginia Academy preschool, and her K4 preschool students sat in the front row for signing day to cheer her on with signs and homemade cards. She played for the Varsity Girls Volleyball team and made the VISAA Second Team All-State.

Robert Glynn will be playing basketball at Mary Baldwin University. He has been an explosive wing on our Varsity Boys Basketball team.

Caiyiah Smith will be playing basketball at Randolph College. Smith has scored over 1,000 points during her high school basketball career, and along with Joi Williams, led the Varsity Girls Basketball team to win the state championship this year.

Joimarie Williams will be playing basketball at Radford University. Williams scored her 1,000th point during her junior year in 2022 and has gone on to earn the title of VISAA state player of the year for 2023.

“It’s a testament to these young people,” said Athletic Director Adam Staats, during the signing ceremony. “Their hard work, their dedication…It’s a true testament of a healthy athletic department that we have kids playing on the next level.”
